Number Facts is a series of drill and practice work books that cover the basic facts of Multiplication, Division, Addition and Subtraction.
The work is presented in a variety of ways that will help understanding and retention, thus increasing accuracy and speed.
The aim of this book is not only to enable the child to learn multiplication tables but to help the child attain complete mastery of them so that they can be recalled with ease and at speed.
If a child cannot recall basic multiplication facts at speed, maths work becomes drudgery and an even greater challenge than it should be. A child may have plenty of mathematical ability but progress will be slow and inhibited if the tables are not mastered.
Understanding first, then drill. Without the drill the facts will be forgotten. The child should practice reciting the tables from memory, having first noticed the number pattern. The score boxes at the end of each section are there as a check on progress and also as an incentive - only 100% is good enough.
A child who knows his/her tables can spend more time at problem solving (instead of wasting time figuring out facts that should be recalled instantly) and will find it easier to acquire new skills in mathematics. Mathematics will become more rewarding. F.G.
